Water dam on the Cetina river
Just around half an hour ride from Omiš, a hydropower dam is located on the river Cetina. To observe the dam with its astonishing waterfalls, you are up to going to a small village, Zadvarje. You don’t have to be afraid of long crowds while waiting for the view, as this place was recommended to me by one of the residents and it is not popular among common tourists. Although Zadvarje is still developing to provide tourists with full service, you can find there all that is needed for a pleasant afternoon. You just shouldn’t forget to take some kunas with you if you want to buy something.

View over the valley and Omiš

Although I had already been in Omiš eight
times, I discovered this place just recently. It is a 10 minutes ride by car
from the town, towards the motorway exit called Blato na Cetini. Even though
there are no bars or even a proper parking place, the view is worth seeing. Under
the viewpoint, fields and the broad dead arm of the river can be seen. The road itself is
reconstructed and even wide enough so you don’t have to be afraid of meeting a
bus in the narrow part of the road.
Swimming
in the Cetina river
To refresh yourself and
forget about salt water and sand just for a moment, small beaches along Cetina
are the perfect choice. The one I would recommend the most is just a few
minutes before Zadvarje if you go from Omiš.
It is a small place
surrounded by trees and just a minute walk from the road. But the beach is well
hidden from cars driving around (check the map below).
The current of the river
is weak in this part, therefore, it is suitable even for families with smaller
children. The bottom of the river is stony, so I would recommend taking sea
shoes.
As this part of the country
is not a touristic destination, majority of people you can meet there are
residents, who are very friendly and you can find out interesting things about
history of this part of Croatia as well as the water dam.
Uznesenja Blazene Djevice
Marije (familiarly Kapelka) Church
If you are bored of lying on the
beach for 2 weeks, a touristic walk to Kapelka church can be the right choice.
The church is located above Duće, a part of Omiš, on the peak of mountains. If
you don’t believe in your abilities for hiking, a part of the journey is
possible to be travelled by car. The road from Duće leads to an old unoccupied
village, Staro Selo. Along the road a small cemetery is located, for residents
of Omiš and especially, Duće. By the village Staro Selo you should let your car
rest, and go hiking. The hike is undemanding and 3km long, lasting only about 1 hour. And how is the
view? Astonishing.
